Having a goal allows you to concentrate your efforts on figuring out how to attain it. When someone takes a decision and begins focused on reaching a specific goal (and, even better, within a specific time frame), the subconscious mind sets to work, generating ideas and formulating tactics for achieving the objective's successful accomplishment.
When you set a goal for yourself, both your conscious and subconscious minds begin to work on it and create an action plan. You'll notice that you start asking yourself questions about what has to be done to achieve your goal. You might find yourself coming up with brilliant ideas and solutions to problems or roadblocks in your path to your goal. Solutions and ideas that you didn't think of before may start to pop into your head.
The subconscious mind is a very powerful weapon.
The more you remind yourself of your objective, the more your mind will brainstorm solutions to help you attain it.
Some people claim that when they are asleep and dreaming, they receive answers.
Have you ever observed that having a high IQ or a university degree has nothing to do with becoming wealthy? If they were, every doctor and university graduate would be affluent; nevertheless, statistics reveal that the vast majority of them end up in the same circumstances as the other 95% of the population.
The majority of self-made millionaires have one thing in common: they have set objectives for themselves and accomplished them. They devote time to reading and learning about wealth development, and they are willing to learn from the mistakes and experiences of others as well as their own. You must be much more specific. "Within six months, I aim to own my first investment property." I'll set aside money for legal and bank expenses and borrow 100% of the property's value. I'll look for a three-bedroom brick veneer house that's reasonably priced and close to schools and retail centres. It will either be brand new or have a lifespan of less than ten years. It will be structurally sound and will just require minor upkeep. I'll hire a decent agent to manage it, one with plenty of expertise who can find me a nice tenant."
This is a specific objective to which you might add a lot more. Your mind begins to ask questions like "How much money will I need for the fees and charges?" since your goal is definite. When I break it down on a weekly level, how much does it relate to? Will I have to look at my current expenses to see where I can cut back to make up the difference in order to save the money I need?" Specific goals enable you to develop specific, achievable action plans, because as the old adage goes, "if you don't plan, you plan to fail."
If you write down your goals on a piece of paper and keep it in a visible place where you will see it often, your subconscious and conscious minds will begin to ask questions and come up with answers, and you will find that you have already started taking the steps necessary to achieve your goal.
A set of goals, ranging from daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, ten yearly, and thirty to forty yearly, is beneficial. As time passes and circumstances change, you can always refine and adjust your objectives.
You might find it easier to start at 40 years old and work your way backwards. Try to figure out what actions you'd need to take to attain your 40-year objective, and then stretch them out over different time periods to see what you'd need to accomplish to get to the end result.
Make your objectives realistic and attainable. Set a goal that is not too difficult. Set a lot of small, reasonably attainable goals and work your way to achievement one step at a time. Maintain an optimistic attitude. Even if others patronise you, try to discourage you, or tell you there is no point, believe in yourself and your abilities to achieve.

If you only see a problem in a hurdle and accept that life has given you a blow, you will never learn or grow. It's important to remember that youngsters learn to walk by falling down. It will be easier to conquer your challenges if you concentrate on the long-term goals you want to reach.
